Massage Therapy in British Columbia has been a regulated health care profession since 1946 and is regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of BC. The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of soft tissue and joints of the body for the treatment and prevention of disfunction, injury, pain and physical disorders. Registered Massage Therapists undergo extensive training in the treatment and prevention of injury, pain and physical disorders though the manual manipulation of structures of the body such as ligaments, tendons, connective tissue, muscles, blood vessels, organs and other soft tissues.
RMTs are educated and trained to evaluate individual health needs, and provide active and passive techniques for patient care. RMTs provide an accurate assessment, differential diagnosis of specific soft tissue and musculoskeletal conditions. RMTs treat the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems to improve patient health
RMT treatments consist of informed consent, an interview to establish patient needs & goals, assessment, treatment, reassessment and home care instruction, within the scheduled time period. During the initial visit, approximately 15 minutes will be spent covering relative aspects of the patient's health history. All intake forms will be sent to you electronically or can be completed in person. All information is personal and confidential.

A “boundary” separates professional and therapeutic behaviour from non-professional and non-therapeutic behaviour. RMTs are required to set and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with each patient.
